Colour Freedom Graphite Grey Dye Review

Colour Freedom Graphite Grey Dye Review

Hey

Welcome to my first review, I hope that you will find this useful and that it answers any questions you may have.

Happy Reading <3

So to try out this hair dye I decided to try it out on someone who hadn't dyed their hair previously to see how it turned out. I will go through each stage of the hair dye process. I have included some links where to find the products and my rating of the product :)

List of things you will need:
  • Brush/comb
  • Gloves
  • Vasaline
  • Bleach power
  • Bleach Cream Peroxide in either 30% or 40%
  • Hair Dye Cape
  • Mixing bowl or container
  • Towel

Step 1 :
If you have any vaseline put this on your forehead and ears and the back of the neck this will help protect any bleach from getting onto the skin as this can cause irritation. Grab an old towel and put this around your shoulders to help prevent any drips.

Put on the gloves first then empty all the sachets of bleach powder (if you have Mid to long hair) bleach into a container then add the cream peroxide. for my test dummy I only needed two of the sachets.  Mix well until there is no powder left. It will go to a thick blue paste, don't worry this is normal.

Apply straight onto dry hair you can do this with your hands or you can use a hair dye Tint brush , this will allow you to get to the roots easily. Once you have covered the hair with the bleach you can either leave the hair as it is, cover with cling film or use a hair dye cap. Leave on for as long as needed.

If you are going to bleach your hair make sure that you get the right strength for your hair, a stronger cream peroxide is best on dark hair and will lighten the hair to orange/yellow tones. A lower strength is ideal for light browns to blonde. This will lighten the hair to yellow tones.

Everyone's hair is different so always do a strand test before you cover the full head with the bleach to get the desired blonde. If you haven't tried Jerome Russell bleach it is recommended to do a strand test for this at least 24 hours before to make sure that you aren't allergic to the bleach as this can cause some discomfort.

If the hair is too orange then re-bleach the hair making sure you check it regularly to avoid the hair breaking and potentially falling out. This has happened to me on a number of occasions. Eeeeek! As gross as it may sound not washing your hair for a good few days will help your hair retain its natural oils.  A good conditioner will always be your best friend after you have bleached your hair. You don't have to spend a fortune on this unless you want to.

After the desired time has elapsed wash this off in the shower using warm water or cold water if you can handle this and wash until no bleach is left. Then blow dry.
Step 2 :

Take the colourant and empty the full amount into the cream developer, shake well for about 20-30 seconds to ensure it has mixed together properly. Apply to the dry hair. Again apply vaseline to the forehead (not all over) and to the ears and neck line, this will help if any for the dye gets onto the skin as this can be easily washed off.

It is recommended to leave the product in for 25 minutes, but I left it on for around 40 minutes to get a darker shade of the grey. For more of a pastel shade you can mix any white conditioner with the product.

     Step 3 :
Once the time is up  wash out the dye with warm water until the water runs clear. Apply some conditioner to the hair and leave on as long as needed then wash off. You can always invest in a leave in conditioner that will work through out the day. Once hair has been washed dry the hair and style as desired.
End Results :

As you can see the colour took really well to the hair and turned out a really nice slate grey colour. If this was used on a whiter blonde base the results would be darker. The colour looked like it does on the side of the box which was great as some dyes don't end up looking like they show.

The instructions in this hair dye kit are easy to follow. The gloves aren't amazing but they do the trick. There is more than enough dye to use on medium length hair, for longer hair two boxes would be needed.

Overall I can't fault this product and I would definitely use it again.

Colour: 8/10
Price: 7/10
Final score:  8/10

I hope this review/ guide will help those who want to try this colour out.
